Overview

Known as Devbhoomi - the land of God, Himachal Pradesh is a destination blessed with natural beauty. It’s almost like The Almighty himself has decided to make Himachal Pradesh his resting place. The temples, Buddhist Gompas , shrines, and the Sikh Gurudwaras have a very different feel as each of these structures have been built with different influences. These architectural marvels have found their places in UNESCO World heritage sites.

A northern Indian state in the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh has a reputation of being a trekkers' paradise and is home to getaways such as Dalhousie, Shimla, Kulu, Manali, Kalpa, Sangla, Sarahan and several others. Himachal Pradesh also has a strong Tibetan presence and it is the home of the Dalai Lama. This is reflected in its Buddhist temples and monasteries, and on its cuisine: noodles and dumplings, and vibrant Tibetan New Year celebrations.

Being surrounded by Himalayas, Himachal also holds a reputation for being ‘The Home of Snow’, as ‘Him’ in hindi in means ice or snow, and 'alaya' means home. Living up to that name, the Himalayas are a reservoir of immense amount of snow and underground water. A number of rivers, which flow through the Himalayas , namely Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Yamuna add to its natural glory. It is also the home of dozens of lakes.
